Peter Wm Wagner is Davis' second-most famous inventor,

after Paul Moller of Moller International. (Peter bristles at the comparison, pointing out that Paul didn't actually build his vehicle, and it doesn't work yet, while Peter has built over a hundred of his vehicles). Peter is the creator of the Whymcycle. He pays for this habit by being a substitute teacher at the DJUSD. He's a real-life Wallace. And, like Wallace, he is eminently friendly and always happy to discuss his projects -- and let kids ride them -- wherever he is found. He's currently [2010?] building a large bicycle sculpture for the new Explorit Science Center building. He works out of his garage in his West Davis house.

Peter won fastest time at the 2009 Kinetic Sculpture Race in Humboldt with his creation, Big Friendly Giraffe.

In 2012, Mayor Joe Krovoza officially named November 13th to be Peter Wm. Wagner Day. Calloo callay!

2015-08-24: Someone here wrote: "Please help save WhymCycles. Please help Peter Wagner.  Someone is attempting to kill Whymycles for all Davis by having code enforcement harass him. He has till Monday [8/31/2015] to remove all the bicycles from his house, the fact that they are usable whymsycles seems lost on them. He was pretty disappointed about the whole endeavor & doesn't want to fence his yard so that all are welcome to partake in the bikes.

Here are scans of the code enforcement letter & the proclamation from the city lauding all he has done for bicycling in Davis

An article about this 2015 problem is in a Davis Enterprise at:  [ http://www.davisenterprise.com/local-news/city-orders-whymcycles-creator-to-clear-his-yard/].  Peter's driveway and front yard was all clear before the deadline.
