The Cugnet Centre is a multi-purpose indoor facility located at Weyburn Comprehensive School. First opened in May 2014, it primarily serves as the school's new gymnasium, but also features a stage and retractable seating, which also allows the area to serve as a concert, theatre, and convention hall, usable for community events and by the school.

Development

Plans to construct a new performing arts facility at WCS were drafted as early as 1998; a steering committee known as the Weyburn and District Performing Arts Society was formed in support of the project. Initial models of the centre's design were produced by Bob Satre and Jeff Molder, and presented to the public and other relevant groups (such as City Council and the Sunrise School Division). However, the project stalled following the amalgamation of Saskatchewan's school boards in 2005, which led to the formation of the South East Cornerstone School Division. The project was revived in late-2008 as part of a further series of renovations at the school; in April 2009, the City of Weyburn agreed to provide up to $3 million in funding. The provincial government also provided $4 million in funding for the project, known collectively as the Triple C Centre. The remaining $3.5 million was raised by the Performing Arts Society, which renamed itself the Weyburn Triple C Centre Corp., through various means, including a charity lottery and the sale of sponsorship plaques and seat dedications. With a $1 million donation, the Cugnet family acquired naming rights to the theatre, which became known as the Kenney & Jo-Anne Cugnet Centre.

While the first construction contract for the school's renovations (which included the Cugnet Centre and the Colleen Weimer Hall) was originally set for completion by August 2013, they would not open to the public for the first time until May 2014 (either way, it was promised that it would be ready in time for graduation). The new wing also incorporates a new cafeteria kitchen, a new band room, and a new entryway for the school.
