AM 1190 (CFSL) is a radio station licensed to Weyburn, broadcasting from studios located on 305 Souris Avenue. The station offers a community service-oriented country music format featuring news and weather updates, sports coverage, and religious programming on Sunday mornings.

History

The station was originally founded on August 15, 1957 by Soo Line Broadcasting (leading to its call letters, meaning "Canada's Famous Soo Line"), broadcasting on the frequency 1340. Its original general manager was Keith D. Baker. The station officially served both Weyburn and Estevan until a new sister station was established there in 1961, CJSL. In 1968, the Board of Broadcast Governors (a precursor to the CRTC) approved a frequency change to 1190, and an increase in power to 10,000 watts in the day and 5,500 at night (however, the change itself did not occur until 1991). Four years later, both CFSL (and sister CJSL) were acquired by its current owner, Golden West Broadcasting.

Notable programming

Notable programs aired by CFSL include the Glenn Rodgers Morning Show, which prominently features contests and daily Tradeo segments. Its 12:00 p.m. news is followed by a half-hour of agricultural news segments. The station regularly airs news and weather updates throughout the day. The station also airs broadcasts of the Toronto Blue Jays and Weyburn Red Wings hockey games, and Toronto Blue Jays games syndicated by the Sportsnet Radio Network during the major league season (which, in turn, has also included post-season games). In the past, it has also broadcast curling and the World Junior Hockey Championship
