There is very little evidence of pre-historical settlement in the area, with just the one bronze age dagger being found.

The first settlements and farms originated on a sandy ridge between two river valleys, about 400ft above sea level and stretching from Dunsmore Heath to Hillmorton. The river to the North would be the Avon. South? Maybe Sow Brook.

The area around Church Lawford and Long Lawford was settled, evidenced by crop marks indicating circular and rectangular enclosures, and rows of pits whose function is not certain.

Much as today, Rugby was on the border of three areas, the border of the Coritani Tribe with the Dobunni Tribe, and near the Catuvellauni.

In the middle of the first century the Romans came along.
