- Ce dernier est né à Southampton (Mass., USA) le 7 juin 1859 ; il travaille pour la Lay Whip Company de Rock Island, dès 1881, en tant que comptable ; de 1884 à 1890, il est vendeur sur la route pour la même compagnie, et devient le gérant de la branche canadienne de la compagnie en 1890 ; en 1908, il achète la compagnie et, suite à l’achat d’autres firmes, devient un des plus importants fabricants dans cette industrie au Canada (« whips and lashes ») ; son fils, Walter E. Norris est son associé.
