  • Stephen Foster:
    • In 1828, Stephen Foster, in company with Col. J. Langdon, of Montpelier, Vt., built a store upon the site of that now occupied by the Spalding Brothers. They continued the business until 1833, wheb Col. Langdon withdrew, and Levi Spalding came in. In 1844, Mr. Foster withdrew, and since that time the business has been in the hands of the Spalding family. It may be mentioned here that Mr. Foster was the first merchant in the Eastern Townships that abandoned the sale of distilled spirits. (p. 34)

    • Autres aspects de la carrière de Spalding : "The People's Bank was established in 1851 [à Derby Line]. Spalding was one of the first Directors. He served as President of the Bank from 1863-1871".
