Union House location : was a dwelling house owned by Mr. Kelly whose wife was a sister of Mr. Harris Way

J. T. Flint’s drug store was a barn owned by Harris Way. A. A. Barry occupied it as a drug store, post office and grocery store with … in the basement.

In 1827, Harris Way purchased from the heirs of Freeman Haskell the clothier’s shop and the greater part of the other property, and subsequently bought the shop and other real estate of Otis Warren. Mr. Way continued in business until 1855, and then sold out to Ozro Morrill. (p. 34)

In 1815, Otis Warren built a large shop, using the water power from the canal, and carried on for many years an extensive business in wool carding, and in the manufacture of various kinds of machinery required in the settlements. Mr. Warren sold to Harris Way in 1837 and removed to Montreal. (p. 33)

Résumé : Location du Moulin à carder pour cinq ans, pour la somme de 6 pounds 5 shillings par année : « Right and privilege of Carding Wool in the upper part or story of the East half of a certain wooden building situate upon Lot number one in the ninth range of Stanstead aforesaid at the head of the Canal, being the same now or lately by the said Otis Warren used for the purpose of carding wool […] with the right of drawing water from the said canal […] ».

Résumé : Location, pour un terme de cinq ans et la somme de 50 dollars ou 12 pounds 10 shillings par an, d’un terrain de Rock Island (lot no 1 du 9e rang), décrit ainsi : «…being the same […] described in and by that Deed of Sale thereof heretofore granted by the late Willard Kelly, in his lifetime of Stanstead Blacksmith unto the said Harris Way [5 mai 1844] with the privilege […] to and from the highway, and also a Furnace and Blacksmith’s Shop thereon erected together with all the Blacksmith Tools, Patterns flasks and every other apparatus […] with all the water or other privileges thereunto […] ».

Résumé : Vente d’un partie du lot no 1 du 9e rang du Canton de Stanstead : « …being on the West side of the King’s highway […] commencing at the South Corner of the parcel of land belonging to Messieurs Levi Spalding and Stephen Foster Junior, and whereon a Store is erected now occupied by Spalding, Foster and Company, on the said highway, thence running Westerly along the South line of the said Spalding and Foster lane and other land, to a certain point where it strikes the rear of the parcel of land hereby conveyed, at the distance of thirty feet West of the Store thereon erected, and lately occupied by one Joseph C. Chase, and part of which is now occupied by one Albert G. Starrett, thence on a Straight line running South so as to include the land whereon the Barn is erected, till it strikes the road leading from the said highway to the Grist Mill, thence Easterly along the said Mill Road, to the highway above mentioned, thence North along the said highway to the place of beginning, and containing about one quarter of an acre of land more or less […] with the said Store and Barn thereon […] ».
