Eastman, and running Westerly on said Eastman’s line, and land of Levi Spalding, about [?, non mentionné] rods, till it strikes the land of Levi Spalding, thence Southerly by said Spalding’s line to the Province line, thence by the said Province line, to the point of beginning […] and the same as acquired by the said parties hereto conjointly from Stephen Foster [on the 24th January of 1863] […]. Secondly […] commencing on a line parallel with the North End of the Clothier’s Shop or fulling Mill, thirty feet Westerly from the North West corner of the said Shop or Mill and extending Westerly on said line the distance of thirty feet, thence Southerly on a line to be drawn parallel with the West side of the said Clothier’s Shop or fulling Mill to the whole depth of the same the distance of forty two feet, thence Easterly on al line to be drawn parallel with the South End of the said Shop or Mill thirty feet, thence Northerly on a line parallel with the West side of the said Clothier’s Shop or fulling Mill to the place of beginning […]. And Thirdly, another tract or parcel of land […] lying upon the Canal on the West side of the Queen’s Highway leading to Derby and bounded on the North East side by an emplacement or privilege heretofore conveyed by Charles Kilborn to the late Freeman Haskell on the South West or Lower side by a line drawn parallel with that said North last line and at such a distance therefrom that it shall pass twenty feet below the Lower End side of the old Saw Mill now in ruins and extending to the South West boundary from the South East side of the said Canal […] as acquired by the said parties hereto conjointly from one Hubbard Joslyn [on the 13th January of 1864] […] ».   • From 1840 to 1850, there were few changes. The limits of the village were gradually extended to the north, and across the river, taking in an area of nearly a square mile. A few enterprising traders and mechanics begun during this time – among whom were A. A. Barry, David White, Stilman Ray, E. Eastman, David Libbee, A. W. Morrill, and C. W. Drew. (p. 35)
