ASU Polytechnic opened in Mesa, Arizona in 1996. Founded originally as ASU East on the former Williams Field Air Force Base, ASU Poly was intended to be the home of engineering and other STEM undergraduate programs. The campus uses desert landscaping on this former desert land where one often see rabbits and lizards and the occasional coyote on campus. In 2017 Arizona State University had four campuses: ASU Tempe, ASU West, ASU Downtown (Phoenix), and ASU Polytechnic. The former Williams Field is also the home of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.  ASU Poly has degree programs in agribusiness, business administration, applied sciences (biology), real estate, aviation, education, and interdisciplinary studies.
