Rosmar Manor 1

The Rosmar Manor Apartments were at 570 Excelsior where I-580 now runs. The English-style building was designed by architect Clay N. Burrell, and built in 1928.

NB: The UC Berkeley Bancroft photo is labeled Dunscommon Apartments, Mandana Blvd., but no other references have been found to a building by that name.

The owner was H. Danskenen. The first manager was Mrs. J. N. Dunkley, and apartments were available furnished or unfurnished for between $60 and $125. 2 The building featured travertine floors in the lobby, parking, and "fire-proof" storage below the garage. The apartments included Frigidaire refrigerators, Hipolito roller screens, and Marshall & Stearns hide-a-beds. 2

In 1932, the building was sold to George Bont of San Francisco for approximately $125,000. The article notes there were 75 rooms divided among 24 apartments. 3
