James Larue, Jr (1835 (or 1838)-1904) served on City Council in 1873 and 1874, representing the 7th ward. His father, James Larue, was an influential pioneer in Oakland.

Laure Jr was born in Michigan and followed his mother to California when he was 14.9 Larue Jr worked for his father in the ferry and lumber business until approximately 1880. Then he joined up with "Mr Mathews" to become half of Mathews & Larue, an insurance company. In 1869 he married Lydia Palmer.3 Laure lived at 1432 13th Avenue.6 Larue was a certified notary public (not sure how common this was then).5
