Hattie E. Branch DeHart (January 1874 – June 1935) was on the board of directors and secretary of the Oakland NAACP. She was also one of the organizers of the Fanny Jackson Coppin Club,
Hattie Branch was born in January 1874 in Texas. On August 10, 1898, she married Tazwell Creed DeHart (January 1864 – May 13, 1931) in Alameda County. They had one son, Reginald L. DeHart. Tazwell worked as a railroad porter. From at least 1916 to 1924, they lived at 867 - 35th St. in Oakland.
In 1903 Tazwell applied for and in 1904 received patent #725,051 for a "non-refillable bottle". 2 He also had a patent for a "coffee-making machine with removable extraction cups". 3 c.1924 Reginald worked as a tailor.
At the time of Hattie's death in 1935, she was living at 1814 Woolsey St. in Berkeley. DeHart was a member of the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World (IBPOEW), an African-American fraternal order modeled on the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE). 1
