Duane Deterville is co-author with Jerry Thompson of Black Artists in Oakland. Oakland artist and writer, co-founder of the Sankofa Cultural Institute. The Monthly, an East Bay magazine, featured Deterville and Thompson in January of 2008 when their book came out, along with a number of other notable African American artists and black cultural institutions in Oakland.
