1. The city of Philadelphia is local to students at University of Delaware, we often go to the city for concerts, events, food, or shopping. But are we aware of the health of the people in the city? A 2018 report from the Philadelphia government gives an in depth look at the health of the city’s residents. One of the most apparent things (so apparent that it is even noted in the opening of the report on page 4) is the consistent disparities in health outcomes for racial minorities and those in poverty. The pamphlet states: “Also, many disparities in key health outcomes and behaviors persist particularly for racial/ethnic minorities and those experiencing poverty.” This trend is apparent in many other large cities in the United States and globally, because an intensely unequal distribution of wealth leads to equally as drastic disparities in healthcare and contributing factors.
