IV includes recognized artists as residents and former residents, and here are some in alphabetical order. Do you know of more? Add them!

Hank Pitcher

Hank Pitcher moved to IV as a child in 1951 and grew up here, when IV was "about a hundred families, and cattle, and bean farms, and fields of wildflowers from Abrego Road to the freeway." He is a painter who often works with Santa Barbara area subjects, including Coal Oil Point and surfing.

He was one of the first students at the College of Creative Studies (including "seminars with visionary scientist Buckminster Fuller") and has been teaching art there since 1971. His website says "Pitcher designed the facility and logo for the first Kinko's store which was originally located in Isla Vista. Pitcher named and created the logo for Mr. Zogs Sex Wax for then UCSB business major Rick Herzog." More about Kinko's, and more about Sex Wax.

Chris Potter

Chris Potter is from Goleta and paints landscapes around the Santa Barbara area, including IV beaches: Coal Oil Point, Devereux, Depressions.

Harry Reese and Sandra Liddell Reese

Harry Reese and Sandra Liddell Reese are book artists who have been living in (and making books in) IV since 1977. Harry has also been teaching art at UCSB since then, including being involved in the College of Creative Studies and its Book Arts program. They made an artists' book about IV in 1991 (Near Goleta, But Closer), and Harry gave a talk about this work at UCSB (recording available at that link).

Ann Sanders

Ann Sanders lives in IV and paints a lot of local landscapes in pastels.

Susan Whisenand

Susan Whisenand lives in IV and works in watercolor and other mediums.

Gerry Winant

Gerry Winant also lives in IV and does oil paintings, including landscapes.

Kim Yasuda

Kim Yasuda is an artist and professor of spatial studies in the Art department at UCSB. She lives in IV, and part of her work is on getting students and other UCSB people engaged with art in the community in IV, including via IV First Fridays, WORD Magazine, and other projects.
