Between 1656 and 1658 the Down Survey mapped all areas of the country to track ownership of land after much had been granted to followers of Cromwell after the war of the 1650's. However Drishane Island was not considered at that time - presumably as uninhabited. It was mapped as a "rock"
The proprietor of this townland in the 19th century is not listed. However Tom O'Sullivan is listed as the lessor in the Griffiths Valuation of 1853 while James O'Sullivan leased it from him at a price of 2 shillings a year
