History

The Fearrington Farmers’ Market began in 1991, when a group of Fearrington Village residents came together in the hopes of creating a place for farmers and consumers to meet — offering an attractive outlet for farmers and a source for fresh, high quality, locally-grown produce, plants, meats, baked goods, and home-canned goods for consumers.

Today

Now in its' 30th season, the farmers’ market has shifted and changed into the market it is today. The market allows for only “producer-only” vendors, meaning that the products are grown or baked or tended or preserved by the farms who bring them to market. All vendors reside within a 50-mile radius of the market. The market promotes local and healthy produce, supports small, local growers, farmers and creators, as well as encourages sustainable farming practices, all while maintaining affordability. In addition to its' vendors, the market also has a stand for the Farmer Foodshare, a nonprofit that accepts donations each week.

The market is held every Tuesday, rain or shine, from 4pm to 6pm during Daylight Saving Time, and 3pm to 5pm otherwise. Many customers come from Pittsboro, Chapel Hill and surrounding areas, but the majority of market regulars are part of the Fearrington Village community. Another upside to the market is that it has the cutest pups, and Olive, the local farm chocolate lab, from Perry-winkle Farm says hello to everyone who comes to the market. When coming to the market, it is important to take a shot at ringing the bell. Every week at the start of the market, the market manager; Eddie Kallam, asks someone to do the honors of ringing a cowbell to mark the start of the market.
