The College of Business is recognized by BusinessWeek magazine as a top 100 undergraduate program. Society for Human Resource Management recognized them as one of the top 37 schools in academic standards. The Aspen Institute ranks Illinois State University's MBA Program 32nd among the Beyond Grey Pinstripes Global 100 programs for preparing students for social, ethical and environmental stewardship in business. Certified Public Accounting Exam (CPA), Highest pass rate for public universities in Illinois. Top five schools nationally on each of the four parts of the CPA exam for the 64 schools reporting 50+ students taking the exam. One of 20 business schools nationally to have full membership status in Consortium for Undergraduate International Business Education. CUIBE is comprised of nationally recognized international business programs from across the United States. Business Insurance recognizes the ISU undergraduate risk management and insurance program as the fourth largest program in the country. One of 29 business schools 29 business schools nationally recognized by the International Risk Management Institute, Inc. Risk and Insurance Management Society, has recognized Illinois State University as one of the top schools for graduates in insurance and risk management. The College of Business at Illinois State University was recognized as one of the Best Business Schools in the 2011 ranking for U.S. News and World Report. Illinois State is listed among the country’s Best 100 undergraduate business schools. Specialty rankings include: Quantitative Methods (25), Ethics (31), Operations Management (35), Sustainability (37), and Corporate Strategy (48).

State Farm Hall of Business

The State Farm Hall of Business, built in 2005, is the newest academic building on campus. It is 4 stories tall and is 118,000 sq feet. It uses 21 century technology to provide students the best possible environment to learn. It provides a wireless network in all parts of the building. Every seat in the classrooms has a power outlet and a data outlet to provide their students the ability to use the full power of their computer which helps the students can utilize the resources provided to them by a computer. Every classroom is also equipped with a high resolution projector, touchscreen control panel, VoIP phone system, and high resolution document camera. The Country Insurance and Financial Services Atrium in the basement of the building is a 6 story tall open area with a view of the court yard and has a walkway on each of the 4 floors above. It provides a peaceful place to sit and have a cup of coffee while socializing or doing homework. The Business Bistro provides a convenient store in the atrium where you can get a cup of coffee, breakfast, sandwich, sushi, or an ice cold beverage.

Departments

Accounting

The Illinois State university department of accounting is nationally recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of the best accounting schools in the Nation. The department has one of the highest pass rates on the CPA exam and students are recruited by some of the most well known accounting firms in many places such as Chicago, Bloomington, and St Louis. Students have the option to do a standard 4 year program and get their bachelor degree or they can do a 5 year program which gives students a Bachelor and a Master of Professional Accounting which allows students to take the CPA exam and be a certified accountant which allows for them to have more job opportunities in just one additional year of schooling. As part of the accounting department, they offer a major known as Business Information Services which focuses on accounting while also teaching the students computer programing skills which allows for a more diverse education and gives them a wider opportunity for careers.

Finance

Finance is concerned with the management of money and with investments in various financial instruments, often through financial institutions such as banks, brokerage firms, insurance companies, and real estate firms. Even though these areas may seem to involve quite different ideas and applications, concepts such as risk and the time value of money play important roles in all financial ventures.

Katie School of Insurance and Financial Services

In 1991 professors at Illinois State University saw the lack of school in the industry of insurance so they started the Katie School of Insurance and Financial Services. The combination of Country Financial, State Farm and other major insurance companies in the area has made the Katie School of insurance one of the largest and most popular insurance schools in the country. The abundance of insurance companies in the area allows for guest speakers, internships, and countless other ways for the students attending to get experience which helps the students after graduation to get jobs. In 2011 Risk Management Magazine ranked Illinois State University Katie School of Business as the number one school in the nation in terms of graduates. Last year they graduated 142 students.

Marketing

The marketing program offers a general sequence in addition to specialized sequences in professional sales and integrated marketing communication. The curriculum is sensitive to, and compatible with, private sector and societal demands. The academic programs are rigorous and challenging, and the faculty utilize an active learning, or high-student-involvement approach in their classes. The business teacher education program is recognized by students, alumni, educational agencies, accrediting organizations, and professional groups as a premier program emphasizing excellence.

Faculty

The College of Business has over 130 faculty and staff members. The teachers and staff of the college of business are dedicated to teaching the students of the university. They center their attention to teach the students the skills to succeed in business. They teach a strict code of ethics and expect their students to be good, moral people. The teachers are well educated in their field and can relate to their students while pushing them to be the best they can be.

Scott D. Johnson

Dr. Scott D. Johnson is Dean of the College of Business at Illinois State University. He received a Ph.D. in Marketing at Michigan State University, an MBA and a BA degree from the University of Minnesota.

Students

The College of Business has approximately 3500 students, has 10 different majors.

Internships

The College of Business helps the students find internships at some of the major companies across the nation. These internships allow for real world experience before they graduate and many times these internships are made into permanent positions after the student graduates.

Greek Life

Greek life is very important to the college of business. the fraternities are designed to expand the skills of their majors through speakers, mock-interviews, tours of major companies, service opportunities, and providing experience that the classroom can not teach.

Alpha Kappa Psi stands as the oldest and largest professional business fraternity in the nation.

Gamma Iota Sigma

Gamma Iota Sigma is a coed insurance fraternity and is dedicated to providing its members insight into the business and insurance industry as well as networking opportunities at the local and national levels.

Pi Sigma Epsilon

Pi sigma Epsilon is the only national co-ed marketing fraternity. It strives to expand the skills of their members in sales and marketing.

Pi Omega Pi

National Business Education Honorary Society. It creates fellowship among teachers of business subjects; creates and encourages interest and promotes scholarship in Business Education; encourages civic responsibility; and fosters high ethical standards in the business and professional life of its members.

Sigma Iota Epsilon

Honorary Fraternity for business administration majors.

Study Abroad

The College of Business offers students many ways to expand their resume by studying abroad. The College of Business sponsors both summer study abroad programs and semester programs and has partner institutions in England, France, Mexico, Japan, Germany, Spain, Thailand, China, and Canada. Studying abroad expands a students resume and can provide them a cheaper education while providing them with an experience of a lifetime.
