Olive Street in the City of Ypsilanti runs three blocks from Washington Street on the east to Ballard Street on the west.

Origins

Olive Street was surveyed, but not named, in the Western Addition plat, recorded Nov. 11, 1844.  It was named "Olive" on March 12, 1866, by act of Ypsilanti City Council. The origin of the name is not clear, but it is supposed that the street was named for Olive Gorton, the teacher who opened the first school on the west side of the Huron River around 1825.
