Final resting place of Charlotte Anita Whitney, Mountain View Cemetery (JL)

Charlotte Anita Whitney (known as Anita Whitney) (July 7, 1867 – February 4, 1955) was a leader in the women's suffrage movement, a Socialist, a pacifist, a teacher, Communist Party organizer, a social worker, voting rights activist, criminal syndicalism defendant, California State Controller candidate, national chairwoman for the Communist Party, and U.S. Senate candidate.

Because she was such a controversial figure throughout her lifetime, when Charlotte Anita Whitney died, no headstone was placed on her grave. Instead, she was buried with her parents, George E. Whitney and Mary L. Whitney in Mountain View Cemetery.
