Charles Edward Kingsford Smith 1

Sir Charles Edward Kingsford Smith (February 9, 1897 - November 8, 1935) was an Australian aviator best known for the first Trans-Pacific flight to Australia that began at the North Field (the Oakland Municipal Airport) on the morning of May 31, 1928.  The three stages of the journey were from Oakland to Wheeler Army Airfield in Hawaii.  The next leg of the trip was from Barking Sands, Mana, Kauai to Suva, Fiji, and the final leg was from Fiji to Brisbane, Australia.
